Scouts on the Water - Part 2
We were back on the water again tonight in Skerries. Fiona is away on holidays and Alan had work commitments so it was left to Ciarna and Brendan to run the evening. No Better Men. Again, we met at the sailing club in Skerries and the guys from Outdoor Dublin met us there. We got changed into wetsuits and headed for the beach. The tide was in, so we didn’t have too far to go. There were a lot of people out on the water from the Sailing Club, the local rowing club, and from another Scout Group 2nd Port Dublin Skerries. They were kayaking.
To change it up this week, we were going to go Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUPing). The wind had died down from last week so the water was much calmer. This would make it a lot easier for paddle boarding (apparently). All of the scouts buddied up as it was 2 to a board. One person had the paddle while the other person lay on the front of the board.
Unfortunately Ciaran wasn’t feeling too well and decided to stay on dry land. It was just as well, because he managed to take some great action shots. Brendan was out on the water again and he took some video footage which you can see HERE. We paddled about for a while with most of us having multiple falls off the boards, but sure that is where the fun was. Some of the scouts, however, didn’t even seem to get their hair wet, which was a bit surprising.
The session was over all too soon, but all in all, it was another great event, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. We are all really looking forward to our Surfing and Kayaking sessions on Summer Camp in 3 weeks time.
