Scout Meeting 9th July 2015

We had a few guests at tonight’s meeting. Nicholas and Abbey joined us from Cubs along with their Leader Sinead. Nicholas and Abbey will be moving into the scout section in September so they wanted to see what goes on as part of a typical scout meeting. It is all part of their growth and movement within the scouting community.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very typical meeting, but that’S OK. Last week the scouts decided to go on a stroll around the Bremore Area of Balbriggan to see what they could see. Brendan was delayed because he was shmoozing with local politicians at an event in Rush to send the scouts there off to the World Scout Jamboree in a couple of weeks time. #WSJ2015 We’ll forgive him though as he did great work on our behalf raising awareness for our need for a new and permanent home (scout den), and because he arrived back with 8 pre-loved dome tents for us. WOOP WOOP.

The walk took us down Moylaragh Green towards Bremore Castle. We went down the lane to the Castle and out the back by the new All Weather pitches. Some of the scouts had never been down this way before and the whole idea was to show them some places in their community that they might not have known about.

The scouts and cubs were in great form and full of chat. From the new pitches we went on down past the Martello Tower where we had done some fire lighting in October, and then on to the beach. At this point, Sinead phoned in an order to the chipper and following a run around, we went to get our yummy chipper chips. When we were just about to leave the chipper, Brendan showed up. We all then walked back up to the school where some of the parents were waiting for us to finish our meeting.

It was a very non typical meeting for the cubs to see, but then, I don’t know what a typical meeting would actually be like. It was great to get out and do something a bit different on a summer evening and finish off with a treat like a visit to the Chipper. Next week is our last meeting of the year before we head off on camp. We will me making final preparations and going over gear. Camp is only 10 days away. We can’t believe it.
